Vitamin B12: for good heath

By susancal - Jul 12, 2010

Vitamin B12 is a supplement used to treat diseases and also can give a helpful boost of energy. It is a vitamin that we can gain by eating animal products like meat and eggs. It is found in the highest concentration in the liver. There are also supplemental forms that can be found online or in a healthfood store. If you decide to supplement your diet with b12, sublingual lozenges can be an effective way to boost levels.
Sublingual B12 can be found in lozenge form and placed under the tongue for fast absorption into the body. It is the most cost effective and easy ways to raise your b12 levels. A lozenge can be placed under the tongue and will dissolve in 5 or 10 minutes, it is usually tasteless or has a slight cherry flavor.
If you opt to take vitamin b12 in pill form, you should know that this is not the best way to increase levels of b12. Vitamin b12 needs a substance called intrinsic factor to be absorbed by the lining of the stomach. Some people can have lower than normal levels of intrinsic factor, so b12 will not be easily absorbed through the stomach lining. This is why most people opt for the sublingual or injectable forms.
The injectable form of b12 will raise levels the quickest, because it goes directly into the blood stream. If your choose this type, you should be able to administer the shot yourself, because injections are usually administered once or twice per week. But if you have a difficult time administering shots to yourself, the sublingual form may be preferable to you. This form is the 2nd most effective because it can pass quickly through the thin membrane of the tongue and straight into the blood stream.
