What is Acne?

By Nigel Lane - May 30, 2010
Acne has been called many different names over the past years but in reality they all refer to the same skin condition. Acne is actually a disorder of the oil glands. These particular oil glands can be found on the face, neck, chest, shoulders and back. These glands contain a material that makes lubrication for the skins surface. This lubrication normally comes out through the skins pores, which consist of a tiny hair and hair follicle. The problem with acne occurs when the skins pores become plugged and the sebum produced cannot make it to the surface, but instead it gets stuck in the hair follicle.
This creates bacteria in the skin that begins to multiply and can then cause inflammation and lesions on the skin to appear. This results in the formation of acne.
Many people believe that acne is caused by a change in your hormones while others say your diet is the controlling factor. There have even been people to say that your genetics can have a big part in determining if you are going to have acne or not. The one thing to remember is that you are not alone in dealing with acne because there are millions of people who deal with the problem everyday.
No one is immune from acne and it can occur in adults and teenagers alike. People were under the impression that acne only occurred in teens but that has been proven to be incorrect because millions of adults suffer from the same condition.
Since the face is the first thing that others look at when they see you it can be very frustrating to have acne. Acne can be a very irritating thing to deal with but there are options to help with treating acne and getting rid of it for good.
The first thing that you are going to have to do is figure out the cause of your acne breakouts that way you can figure out what you need to change in order to prevent them from happening in the future. You need to understand what acne is and how it gets there in the first place.
